Our Covid-19 and other Communicable diseases policy

has been revised to the following and is effective starting.

Monday January 23, 2023

Members & Students of OCOTC

The board of directors in Tuesday night's Board meeting, December 13, 2022, has revised the Covid-19 and other Communicable diseases policy regarding best practices while on the premises of Oklahoma City Obedience Training Club.  The new policy is as follows:

*Masks are not required but are optional while in the building and while training.

*Social distancing is Still expected.

*No spectators are allowed in the building without prior approval from the Training Director.

*Class sizes will remain limited.

*If you are sick, please stay home.  I you have been exposed to Covid or other communicable diseases (e.g. flu, strep, RSV) but are not sick, you may come but please wear a mask.

Please continue to use the hand sanitizer and hand wipes available at school.

Here is what we still need from you!

Before Coming to OCOTC:

  • If you are sick, please stay home!!  We will be happy to catch you up or help you to reschedule your class if your absence is prolonged.

  • If you have had contact with someone who is sick or has been diagnosed with Covid-19 or flu, but are not sick yourself, you may come to class if you wear a mask

  • Wash your hands and use hand sanitizer frequently.

While attending Class at OCOTC:

  • Realize that when training your dog, the only things you absolutely need to touch are the dog and your own personal belongings & equipment.  Avoid touching anything else.

  • Do not bring personal items into the facility (purses, bags).  Please leave those locked in your vehicle, or at home.  Bring only the minimum of what you need inside.

  • Plan ahead that only one person attends class with the dog.  We will enforce this policy and ask others to wait in your vehicle.

  • Practice social distancing always.

  • Wash your hands and use hand sanitizer frequently.  Look for the hand sanitizer placed throughout the facility.

  • Masks are optional, except as noted above, while in the building and while training.

Oklahoma City Obedience Training Club (OCOTC) has been training people to train their dogs for over 60 years. Every instructor past and present at OCOTC training classes is a volunteer. They volunteer because they are passionate about the well-being of the dogs in their community.

Nearly every recognized breed of dog has been through the school, from pure bred champions to All American Dogs of mixed breed, and a percentage of those graduating from the novice course have continued into advanced work, eventually earning AKC (American Kennel Club) degrees.

  • Classes are held at the OCOTC Training Facility,
    6629 NW 23rd

  • OCOTC focuses on the encouragement of interest in Obedience training and showing of all breeds of dogs; the holding of classes for the purpose of instructing individuals in the proper procedures of training them to train their dogs in obedience; and the encouragement and holding of Obedience Trials under the rules and regulations of the American Kennel Club (AKC).

  • The club is a not-for-profit organization.

  • A Therapy Dog Program provides training for volunteer dogs and handlers for doing therapy work in local hospitals, nursing homes, schools, and shelters and for disaster relief.

  • The OCOTC Scholarship Program

Provides some financial relief for a veterinary student at Oklahoma State University who is in their third year of Vet School.

FACT: OCOTC is the first AKC club in Oklahoma to be approved to host AKC Scent Work Trials. In 2017 we held two of the very first Oklahoma AKC Scent Work trials!

Come be part of this awesome legacy and sport. You do not need to be a member of the club to participate!
